Journal entry of a boy in Behala
2012-05-06
Dear Diary,
Today was just an ordinary day. Well, that is until I found you. I was just going about, picking up some shattered glass, until I spotted something, hal buried in the ground. That was you, of course. I picked it up straight away and hid it in my jacket. When the sun started to set, I climbed over mountains of trash, to head home.
I had earned 60 pesos today, slighty more than yesterday. My little sister earned 40, which is okay, I guess. Using the money, we bought a whole chicken, and Ma roasted it. While we ate, we told stories about what happened today. I didn't tell her I found you, or else she would have made me sell you and recieve some extra pesos.
I had just finished dinner, and now I'm getting ready for bed. We can't afford any furniture, so we sleep on a heap of clothes, as a temporary bed (more like for the rest of our lives).
Life isn't THAT bad.. But it definatly could be better. Ma always says everything will be alright, soon. When tourists come here, they pretend they care, but in their eyes, you can see how disgusted they are with me and everyone here. Nothing much to write, actually. I'll write more tomorrow, promise.
See you tomorrow,
Boy from Behala
